New ponds in Meteliai - 2007-05-25

10 more ponds digged and 2 ponds cleaned from bushes in Meteliai Natura2000 site. This site is very important for Pond Turtles as they use for living rather small site known as juodabale herpetological site, thus, newly dug ponds in swampy areas will help to enlarge the population. This year females of turtles and juveniles will find suitable hidding places close to nesting sites. Also amphibians will benefit of new habitats as already singing of fire-bellied Toad males are heared in warm evenings.
